We encourage volunteers to join PGENeS. In the past we have had undergraduate volunteers during summer break, recent graduates who want more research experience before moving on to graduate or professional school, and working professionals who volunteer part-time with us over the course of a year. There are many opportunities available for volunteering within a specific research project, and it is usual for a volunteer to have his/her own project under the mentorship of Dr. Mathews or another member of the research group. Depending on the motivation and experience of the volunteer, these projects are expected to ultimately lead to publications and/or presentations.
For undergraduates who want to volunteer during summer break, we ask for a minimum of a 30 hour per week commitment lasting at least two months. For others, we ask for a minimum of 10 hours a week, the majority of which must be during working hours, over the course of a year.
Check out the links on the right for examples of some of the folks who have volunteered with our lab.
